Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
You may have the best product in the world, but it won’t do you any good if no one can find it. Let’s be honest, most of the business nowadays is done online and unless you have a strong SEO strategy, your website may never see the light of day, your brand may go unnoticed, your enticing articles crafted by the finest wordsmiths may go unread and your inspiring videos may go unwatched. Without exposure, you’re no one!
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is a technique used to enhance your website and strengthen your online presence. The goal of SEO is to get your website at the top of SERP, or the Search Engine Results Page. The higher you rank in SERP, the easier it is to find your products and services. SEO has two branches, on-site SEO that focuses on the optimisation of your website and off-site SEO that aims to generate quality backlinks to your site.
Why should I care about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
When someone searches for terms relevant to the product or service you have on offer, you want to appear in search results as close to the top position as possible. If you can’t take any of the top spots, simply being above your direct competitors can make all the difference. SEO is generally cheaper and more sustainable than paid advertising and the organic traffic it generates tends to be of much higher quality.
How can I improve my Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
You won’t take the top SERP spot without doing some legwork first, start by having something interesting to say. Find your niche, add value and solve problems, establish your authority, gain momentum. Get the content right and the backlinks will follow organically. Remember though, if your website is poorly structured, slow to load, hard to use and sluggish on mobile devices, even the best content won’t help.
